A brisk but sunny Saturday afternoon greeted revellers at the first Funcken Haus Oktoberfest Party October 5th at the newly renovated Columbus Centre. Close to 100 guests enjoyed food and fun well into the evening as the Kitchener Knights of Columbus played hosts to the party-goers. The free family affair included the kid’s favourite Bouncy Castle, the Kitchener Firefighters who brought their fire truck, craft-making in the meeting hall, and assorted family games. Several sports fans watched the Saturday afternoon televised Notre Dame football game when the Fighting Irish demolished the Bowling Green Falcons 52 to 0. Entertainment was provided by the Pots and Pans Band while diners enjoyed a Fall menu of schnitzel, chicken and Oktoberfest sausage.
As the evening descended, many could be seen toasting marshmallows and hot dogs around a cozy campfire. With the support of the Kitchener fire Department, free-will donations went to support the Grand River Hospital in acquiring it’s badly needed neonatal breathing assist equipment. The success of the K of C Fall event should invite a return of the Oktoberfest celebration next year.
